Get Messy | Experiments and a Message

Howdie I have so many layouts ready to share I can’t decide which ones to post first. I want to post them all! But I’ll limit it to four today.

IMG_6061.JPG

First up is a pattern inspired by Ashley Goldberg. I haven’t taken her Studio Calico course but am so tempted. I started this layout as a test for a canvas I wanted to work on. And once I finished it I jumped straight in. I’ll share the end result another day though.

IMG_6060.JPG

Next up is a page that didn’t quite work out how I planned but I have decided this journal is about experimenting, making things and sharing them regardless of how they turn out. So here we go.

IMG_5904.JPG

Even the photo didn’t come out quite right – but anyway. The message I was trying to express was that inspiration can come from anywhere – including a magazine article.

IMG_5902.JPG

Next is another experiment that started out with a different vision but ended up looking pretty cool anyway. I’m not good with mists so I had to change my plans after I added them. Water colours came to my rescue and I love the outcome.

IMG_6054.JPG IMG_6052-0.JPG

And last but not least – stamps (by Kellie Stamps of course) and a message to you all.

IMG_5912.JPG IMG_5911.JPG

Thanks guys. I love you all. Xxxx

Get Messy | Gratitude

Hi there you crafty vixens

It is definitely the end of the month, and time to post my response to the Get Messy month prompt. The prompt was:

Journaling Challenge: Gratitude. What are you grateful for? What aspects of your life are you thankful for, that you might be overlooking while being busy?

Art Challenge: Use visual examples for at least three things you’re grateful for. Photos/doodles/magazine cut outs/stickers/anything. SHOW us your gratitude!

Here is my take on the page.

2014-10-25 14.38.38

I started with the black card and some chalk markers – boy are those suckers fun – but a little bit messy. I knew I wanted to have some water colour on there somewhere as well and I had every intention of drawing the items I am grateful for – but had a little moment of insecurity and couldn’t bring myself to put pen to paper with sketching. Then I though of stamps and found these awesome stamps from Kellie Stamps (these are no longer available, but Kellie has loads of awesome stamps there) and Amy Tangerine. Stamping is relatively new to me – I’ve always been just a bit scared of them – but I am breaking through that and making the most of it.

I also worked on a couple of Halloween based pages just for fun. I enjoyed making these so much.

Halloween water colours

Of course they feature water colour. I took a few days off work last week and I was obsessed with water colouring. And I am really please with how these turned out. Both of them were copied from Pinterest items I saw – but they each have my own take added to them.

Get Messy | Birthdays and nature

IMG_5857.JPG

This week I turned 38. Just another year older – nothing to worry about. Only two steps til the big 4-0 – nothing to worry about. It’s all going to be just fine. Breathe! I’m not really that worried – well maybe a little bit – but I still feel like I did when I turned 18 so I think I’ve got a few years left in me yet.

This weeks Get Messy Art a Journal pages are true to my natural style – simple, clean and with plenty of water colours.

IMG_5861.JPG

These two pages were inspired by rainy weather (a week or so ago) and gloomy haunted houses (Halloween isn’t far away).

IMG_5860.JPG

IMG_5859.JPG

This next page came about after experimenting with white must on a black card. I loved it so much I decided to use it. The moon and the stars.

IMG_5862.JPG

And then – 38 – an ode to my birthday. Thanks for all of the lovely messages yesterday. I felt very loved.

Have a great week guys. It’s almost prompt sharing week.

Get Messy | Water Colour

Another week rolls around and I am sharing my Get Messy Art Journal pages. I hope you like these – they are my first pages using my new journal. I really love the recycled paper. But I am still so nervous when I get started.

IMG_5152.JPG

I attempted some water colour landscapes and still life’s. The paper absorbed a bit more paint than I was expecting so have started using gesso now to help with this.

IMG_5153.JPG

IMG_5155.JPG

The second set are more collage based pages.

IMG_5151.JPG

I’m quite happy with this weeks pages. Now to move on to the prompt page. I have a question though. What do you do when a page doesn’t quite work out how you anticipated. Or gets damaged (by paint seepage for instance) – do you start again? Or embrace it?

Get Messy | New and Old Art Journals

Hi there

Thursday already and I wasn’t as prepared as I should have been. I’m holidaying in Melbourne this week and was supposed to write this post before I left. But I didn’t. My bad. So instead I am lying in my hotel bed typing on my phone. Thank goodness for technology – iPhones and the Internet.

Anyway, here are my layouts for this week.

IMG_5160.JPG

Weird doodles and washi tape!

And this is my very last mini journal page. My album is full!

IMG_5163.JPG

I have a new journal though – with pages made of recycled cotton. It’s gorgeous. I love it – so much that I’ll also share a sneak of my first page.

Get Messy pages

Hi there

I’ve been creating up a storm this week – I have quite a few pages up my sleeve for those weeks when life gets a bit busy. Such a good tip from our lovely Get Messy leaders.

First up this week are a couple of pages from my tiny album (as usual). Sadly this little album is almost full so I have been investigating my options for a new journal.

IMG_0322.JPG

The left hand page was inspired by a Pinterest link (that I can’t find right now) and by my cleaning out my kids toy cupboard. I found a Rainbow Fish puzzle that had missing pieces and decided to use it. I did get a bit hasty with my Journalling and made a mistake but decided to just run with it. I could have pulled the pieces off and started again but just decided to embrace it! Embrace imperfection was a quote I used a few weeks ago.

The second page was a spontaneous page that doesn’t actually have Journalling but I love the gold and black combo.

IMG_0323.JPG

Next up is a little collage of scrappy items and another dabble with brush script of sorts.

And my last page for the week involved a bit of finger painting and a cute quote – my go to style.

Hope you enjoyed my art endeavours this week. See you soon.

Get Messy | Brave

I can’t believe it is already the last week of September and I am posting my third monthly prompt. And this one was great. I sat and thought about it for quite some time before I worked out how I would tackle it. The prompt was:

Journaling Challenge: Live your adventurous dreams on paper. What would you love to do, or at least try, if you had the courage to live more adventurously? I would, for example, like to live on a houseboat or a train wagon.

Art Challenge: Try a method or material you’ve never worked with before. Be adventurous!

So my approach was to journal a bucket list of things I would love to do if on,y I was brave.

IMG_0318.JPG

And I decided to go for a really messy art approach with lots of layers and different techniques. I’ve discovered over the last few weeks that I like simple pages and water colours when Journalling so using layers of paper and gesso and mists and pictures and embellishments was way out of my comfort zone. I’m happy with the result but I don’t think I’ll be using that style all that often.

IMG_0319.JPG

Apart from the prompt I have also made a couple of other tiny pages – back in my trusted style.

IMG_0320.JPG

A simple stamped background (in gold) with a simple quote and a patterned background with embellishments and a quote. Easy but fun.

Can’t wait to find out what the next prompt is.

Get Messy | Collage

Hi everyone – Get Messy time again.

I have to admit I was feeling the pressure of getting my journal pages done last week with all of posts in the Get Messy Facebook group. But I sat down on Saturday afternoon and things just flowed. My teeny tiny journal album is perfect for quick pages and batch processing. I know I keep going on about my small album but I really love it.

Anyhoo – onto my spread.

IMG_4708.JPG

I played around with texture past again. That stuff is so fun!

I’m not sure why but there is a bit of a crazy vibe coming from these pages. Not sure what happened there. But the results are cool I think. I really let my hair down and just went with it. No overthinking this one.

IMG_4709.JPG

IMG_4710.JPG

Next up is a little floral goodness.

IMG_4707.JPG

Magazine clippings, song lyrics and sharpie fine liners. Simple but I really love this combo.

IMG_4711.JPG

IMG_4704.JPG

See you all next week.

Brisbane trip

IMG_4640.JPG

I was on a roll and finished another couple of pages from my trip to Brisbane back in March. These kinds of events are what I like to record the most. I’m finding that my regular day-to-day photos are all looking the same – cats, rabbits, vegie garden and food I’ve cooked. My kids are all either teens or Tweens and HATE it when I take their photos. So sad for a creative type like me.

But never mind – I still have plenty of things to record.

My first layout is from the Mater Hospital Chicks in Pink fun run I did in Brisbane. I love to run, but I do not love running in humid Queensland. It was hard work. But fun.

I pretty much let the photos do the talking on this layout. Very minimal but I like it that way.

Next up is a page dedicated to my gorgeous niece and nephew. I stayed with them for two nights which was lovely. They live in Ashgrove just around the corner from where we lived when two of the kids where little so we went for a reminiscent walk to the park. I used to feed the ducks with my babies on that very bridge – and play in that playground.

Last but not least I finished a page from my visit to my dear friend Morgana and her family where I finally got to meet the adorable baby Quinn. I’m in love!

Get Messy | Owls, Sequins and Script

Hi again – are you ready for another week of art journal pages? Well I am!

IMG_0311.JPG

First up is a little number I call ‘Owl City’. A cute little zentangle owl piece. This was fun and created while sitting in the car waiting for my son to finish soccer. I probably should have been watching – but it was cold, damp and quite early on a Saturday morning – such a slack mother!

Then comes ‘Shiny’. A simple scrappy feeling art journal page using thickers and sequins. Who doesn’t love sequins and sparkly letters?

IMG_0317.JPG

Once again I have tried working with brush script. Still hate my writing and still not good with a brush. I will keep practicing though.

And my last page is an ode to all of the fathers out there. Sunday just gone was Father’s Day in Australia and I made this page out of the wrapping from my husbands gift. Peter Alexander Star Wars PJs. But damn that black page was hard to photograph!
